Defenders of Mellow 2
Oldschool Houserock (OSHR) is a web site and news letter which acts as a banner for a group of Portland artists. Selection is done by peer process. These bands don't pay to be on the roster. Nor does OSHR make money off the bands. It is strictly a brand whose primary mission is to see it's members successful in making their art. OSHR Compilations are promotional CDs that showcase the best material from NW bands and artists. The CDs are sent to: local media, online zines, radio stations, colleges, and clubs; heavily distributed in the NW and through other parts of the United States. Who are some of the main acts featured? * Warsaw Poland Bros are a longtime act from Phoenix, AZ, who were orginally ska but then turned more weird and all over the place as time went on. They are constantly touring and releasing material. Check them out. * Big Island Shindig are a Portland jam band who always delvier great live shows. Each show is a theme with sets and costumes. Very fun and happening act. * Wyatt Herb is a band which fuses Tex-Mex with Reggae. They call it cowboy reggae or Rata-Billy. Zappa fans tend to migrate towards this band. * Brian Kenney Fresno is an amazing one man show featuring Brian (formerly E is for Elephant) on a ten stringed chapman stick type isntrument made by War Guitars. He harmonizers wit himnself using live looping. * Subthunk is a electronic unit which mixes drum n bass with pop progressions and meleodies. Long time stoner guys. Plus other great acts: Hookah Stew (funk), Civilized Animal (rock-ska), The Gecko (acid jazz), Hoopaala (country) and lots of goodies.
