Layin' It Down
A Note from Abi, Annie & Faser of the NYCity Slickers: 'While working on this CD over the past year, we have been forced to constantly re-define and try to pin down the essence of The NYCity Slickers. We definitely depart from traditional male driven bluegrass and instead have created a synthesis of The Andrew Sisters, The Dixie Chicks and Bill Monroe. In recording these 13 songs, we tried to capture the energy of one of our live shows. Of course we didn't realize at the time just how ambitious it was to record eight artists live in one studio and still allow us to have artistic freedom and room for edits. We are so proud of this CD and what we were able to accomplish. We continue to be inspired and thrilled to collaborate with the awesome musical talents of Linda, Stephen, Doug, Jens, and Greg who make up our NYCity Slicker family. There is nothing more exciting than the magic we create when we play together and we hope that these songs will inspire you to catch one of our live shows in the near future.' The NYCity Slickers is an 8-piece, high energy bluegrass band that combines the wailing tight harmonies and talents of three gorgeous gal singers with the hard driving sound of five musically gifted musicians on banjo, guitar, mandolin, fiddle, bass and accordion. The Slickers' unique 'Big Apple Bluegrass' sound is a synthesis of traditional bluegrass, zydeco, delta blues & country pop, resulting in a theatrically inspired, toe tappin', one-of-a-kind, rockin' good time. 'absolutely enchanting. I could have listened to you all night. You all made me so proud to be from Mississippi.' ~ William Winter, former Governor of Mississippi 'From my days producing country tunes in New York and Nashville, I have always loved an authentic sound mixed with creative inspiration, and the NYCity Slickers are all that and more. They are the best toe tappin' / leg shakin' / put a smile on your face / good time band I know.' ~ David M. Pincus Managing Director / WorkShop Theater Company Chair, Theater Task Force / NYC Community Board 4.
