Best Kept Secret
Nothing But Excuses gives the music world a taste of their Philly rock sound with their latest EP, The Best Kept Secret. For music fans everywhere, this seven-song collection of contagious hooks and catchy guitar melodies shows they have a lot to offer. "It pretty much describes how we feel about our music and where we are at right now," says vocalist Lauren Green. "We feel like we have great songs and we are right there on the bubble of getting them out to a much wider audience." The disc itself shows off the musical diversity of the band, with Green\'s introspective lyrics offering a rare feminine perspective in this new era of rock-and-roll. "We don't set out to make a song sound a certain way," explains Dave Seaner, the band's bass player. "We each have different influences and they just come through in a song. It's not something that we look to control, it's just what happens." From the radio-friendly pop songs \'Crash\' and \'Romeo & Hyde,\' to the garage-rock feel of \'The Sharpest Word,\' and ending with the new prog finale \'Last Day,\' NBE proves that they can connect with fans of many musical styles. The songs themselves, masterfully produced by Jason Rubal at Seventh Wave Studios, are a testament to memorable guitar licks, soaring vocals, and good old-fashioned songwriting. Since the release of the EP in 2008, the band has been getting a positive response from across the board. Choice cuts from the disc have been played on 93.7 WSTW and 104.5 WRFF, and the band has received a good buzz from contacts within the music industry. \'But the greatest response" according to guitarist Gary Lolli, "has been from the people who see us at one of our shows for the first time. We\'re barely off the stage and they\'re asking us for one of our cds. That's a great feeling." The band has picked up fans, playing shows at some of the more notable original music hotspots in and around Philadelphia including The Khyber, Grape Street Manayunk, The North Star Bar, and The Stone Pony in Asbury Park. Regardless of what happens, Nothing But Excuses is a band that has something to say, and now it's your turn to hear The Best Kept Secret. So sit down, lean in, and press play.
