Little Dipper-The Early Years
Northern Light has previously released two CD's, 'Sweet Sunny Day' and '49th Parallel', the latter containing the hit single, 'Minnesota'. 'Little Dipper' is their third release and represents a collection of early recordings, demos and experimentations which anyone including Northern Light devotees will find enchanting, fascinating and intriguing. Some of the songs were recorded at Minneapolis studios of that day, including Audiotek ('Standin Tall', 'Luna Park' and 'Friends With You'),and Sound 80 ('Track 12'). Others were done at more modest facilities in the Twin Cities area. Brian Johnson who has worked with many area stars including most recently with Prince undertook the gathering together and mastering of this collage and did his normal superb job. 'Track 12' was an instrumental backing track for a song entitled, 'Rain' which was written by Keith Follese. Keith has written many country hits such as Faith Hill's huge crossover smash, 'The Way You Love Me'. David Sandler who writes, arranges and produces here mentored under Brian Wilson and has enlisted the help of specially gifted fiends on his productions such as Spence Peterson and Gary Lopac who came together to become Northern Light. Also involved is Don Beckwith who has played guitar artfully for many of the recordings on this CD. Regardless of the venue for the original recordings, Northern Light's love of harmony and melody and it's committment to musical rock 'n roll shines through at all times.
