Nika Garcia is a Mexican-American singer songwriter and actress; her debut album is a collection of brave and original songs. Garcia is very influences by jazz Music and studies jazz singing and Piano. Garcia was also deeply influenced by Joni Michelle especially in this period of late adolescence, when some of these songs were written. Garcia Grew up in Boulder Colorado and was educated in English although Spanish was her first language. She has remained completely bilingual and even learned to speak Portuguese as well. This collection of songs includes some of her first songs and feature arrangements and performances by some of Colorado's best and most established Players. The songs are all in English and are strongly influenced by pop folk jazz and even country music. Released in the spring of 2001 the songs are artistic and introspective in nature. Each of the ten songs is played by a different ensemble giving each a slightly different flavor. ' We tried to allow each song to tell a story and used sound to do that'. says Garcia of her debut release. Each song also became about the players who play it. Some of the musicians are players that Garcia has worked with constantly such as Brian McDougall and Raoul Rossiter. Mr. McDougall was the records only Bass player playing both electric and acoustic, and he was also the producer. Mr. Rossiter plays Drums and percussion and was the Drummer for the original incarnation of the Nika Garcia Band. The harmonies of the songs are simple and intuitive and the record is warm and soothing to listed to. Other musicians who lent their talent to this work include Eban Grace on guitars, Paul Armstrong on piano and organ, Bill Kopper on Guitar, Ron Miles on Trumpet, vocals of Dan Bern, percussion and Drums by Christian Teele, Brian McRae on Drums and John Stewart and Tia Fuller on Sax.
