Nicole Byblow Plays All the White Keys
"One Canadian natural resource that never runs out is great singer/songwriters. 'They Didn't Think So' by Manitoba (born) Nicole Byblow is bright piano-based pop heralding the emergence of another stunning homegrown talent." -Mark Rheaume, Head of CBC Radio Music Resources, Toronto I respect pop music a great deal. A lot of people toss pop aside as empty, and there is definitely some of that; unfortunately a lot of it in the mainstream music industry. But just because It's a genre that doesn't necessitate virtuosity, doesn't mean that it can't reach points of brilliance. My favourites are the artists who bring it to it's highest levels of musicality in their clever songwriting or virtuosic playing. I'm talking about the likes of Ben Folds, Sarah Slean, Elton John, Paul McCartney, Sufjan Stevens ... and as pop music as a genre is starting to peek out from it's pigeon hole, more and more of these artists are coming up. Artists who stretch it, shape it, play with it, try new things with it, and get really, really good at it. I'm striving to become one of these pop artists.
