New South Jazz has been performing in the Atlanta, Georgia area since 1994. The group is comprised of Richard Mills (piano, bass, violin), Lee Spivey (acoustic and electric guitars), and Rob Albertson (drums and percussion). The trio incorporates into their music both traditional mainstream jazz songs as well as up-to-date fusion and contemporary jazz sounds. On this debut recording the trio covers songs from a wide range of American popular music including older standards such as Mancini's Days of Wine and Roses and Green's Body and Soul up to more current melodies by Sting (Fields of Gold) and Pat Metheny (So May It Secretly Begin). The group creates a unique sound which honors it's jazz heroes such as Herbie Hancock, Ramsey Lewis, and Wes Montgomery while at the same time bringing a modern, contemporary sensibility to their music. On "The In Crowd" New South Jazz plays some of the most popular tunes from their live sets. Enjoy the music and have fun!
