Pop culture's worst enemy is here! Navy Blu, the laid back soldier-poet from Cleveland, OH is a lyricist of the highest order and a reviver of the Midwest Rap scene. Navy Blu, better known as Marcus Pittman, began rapping in high school. Rap acts like The Roots, Nas, Scarface, 2pac, Outkast, and Gangstarr entranced him in his teen years and served in influencing him to express himself through Rap Music. His first tests came at the age of 16 when he entered and placed in several freestyle battles in Cleveland's underground Rap scene. In the fall of 2001, Marcus went off to Kentucky State University to attend college. Immediately, he established himself as the best Rapper on campus after winning talent shows and a number of Freestyle Battles. After these successes and witnessing the reactions of his peers to his rhymes, Marcus began to understand the magnitude of the talent that God had given him. No longer just a hobby, Marcus began to pursue rap with a passion unlike ever before. In January of 2005, Marcus released his first LP Spoken Word under the rap name The Novelist. The 12 track LP was an underground classic and an instant hit among his K.S.U peers. After graduating college in the spring of 2006, Marcus started his own record label and publishing company, Spirit and Truth Productions with his brother Jamal. In 2007, Spoken Word was re-released and Sole Reflections; a book of Marcus' poetry, added another notch under the young poet's belt. In 2008, Marcus changed his rap name from The Novelist to Navy Blu in an attempt to more accurately describe who he is as an artist and a person. Unconscious is his latest and most ambitious project yet. The production on the EP is heavy and hard-hitting and Navy Blu's extraordinary rhyme skill and delivery is put on display on eight songs that bleed raw emotion and bold truth. Navy Blu sees himself as an outcast who is in no way interested in over-extending himself for what pop culture calls "success". Navy Blu identifies with those who have been rejected and intentionally forgotten; those of us who have persevered in spite of intense personal, social, and spiritual struggles. His life's experiences have given him the indignation and boldness to address topics that the average MC conveniently avoids. Now in his mid-twenties, Navy Blu is primed and ready to bring his brand of Rap to all who will listen. Straight, no chaser.
