Fly Little Bird
Nancy Jo grew up playing the piano...hammering at the piano keys daily until her parents would ask her to stop. 'I couldn't get enough of it,' she says. Early on though, changes in her family's financial picture forced the sale of her beloved piano. She decided that the next best and easiest thing to do was to begin to sing. That, she did. An early highlight of her career occurred while she was singing as part of the duo 'Loveline' where she performed as a front band for country singer Jody Miller and comedian George Lindsay at the impressive amphitheatre in Red Rocks, Colorado. She went on to study voice and opera at various universities and colleges. Later, she studied acting at a conservatory in Seattle -- 'the best of all possible worlds, to enhance my overall skills as a performer,' she says. Her singing embraces all that she loves: multi-linguistically diverse, stylistically and vocally varied, i.e., pop/jazz/Christian contemporary/latin/rock/opera and stretching the ordinary into the extraordinary. 'When I began to study opera, I discovered that I had a love for many languages, as I have a keen ear for accents and intonation, due to my musical aptitudes and abilities.' Listed amongst her credits are playwright, songwriter/lyricist, producer, director, stage and make-up designer and many leading stage roles. She is as comfortable singing in Spanish, French, Italian, German, Yiddish, Hebrew and Latin, as she is in the English language. 'I want to bring music to the people,' she says in describing her world view of music. 'I enjoy getting inside the groove of the music from every angle, whether it be culturally, emotionally or any new avenue that allows me to express myself and feed my soul, so that I may feed others. This is what makes me feel alive.' Experience in classical and operatic repertoire built the foundation for the clarity and simple effortlessness in which Nancy Jo exposes in every musical phrase. She has been a featured soloist with symphony orchestras, college graduation ceremonies and as a guest artist at private clubs and parties. She has adjudicated voice and piano competitions and continues to write music and poetry. Her full-length musical 'Goodboy's Tale' toured in northeast Pennsylvania, another highlight of her career. 'Fly, Little Bird' marks a new pathway in vocal music exploration and expression. In it she combines genres of music including: Latin, Christian Contemporary and Pop, amidst other musical textures. She is currently working on a new CD that will forge new designs in various languages, cultures and musical styles. She says that she wants to take the road less traveled and 'that has made all the difference.' ~Testimonials: 'Flying over the USA sometimes nice meeting coincidences.
