Do I the In?
Recorded before a live audience at Klub Alchemia in Krakow, Poland September 19. 2007. Do I the In is the groups first release. CokeMachineGlow: It's almost as if pace or mood were a non-issue here, with the band interested solely in pure rhythm and counterpoint, pure sound, making any emotional descriptors irrelevant. Come to think of it, maybe their name is apt: like an overwrought conspiracy, you find yourself putting together incongruent elements until it's forced into a grandiloquent narrative. Unconvincing, unrealistic, irresponsible even? Maybe, but what a hell of a story. AllaboutJazz: Fonda's irrepressible energy meshes well with Kochan's buoyant, even rocky drums, whether in supple grooves or mysterious atmospherics. Theirs is primarily a group conception taking a sideways approach to mood through understated interplay, accentuated by short tracks that encourage incision. Fonda stands out with a typically limber inventive solo on his own 'Song for my Mother' while Kochan's closing 'Choose the Mud ' is notable for Ogrim's chiming intro and cadenza bookending a swinging echoplexed trumpet trio on a disc that satisfyingly avoids the obvious.
