Blues for a Monday Morning
The majority of the pieces on this album are purely improvisational, with the exception of a couple of themes based on New Orleans composers and pianists such as Jelly Roll Morton and W.C. Handy. The best way I can describe the freestyle improvisational pieces is to imagine a basic blues theme (original compositions) in the style of Stevie Ray Vaughn....if SRV were at the keys of this most cool 9ft grand at Fantasy Studios. The Boogie pieces on this album are all original pieces.....influenced by the late great pianists such as Ammons, Johnson, Waller, Sykes, and so many others. Of particular interest to many blues musicians is the ability to bend notes - something all guitar players are familiar with - as you listen to a few of these pieces, you will see that bending a note can also be performed on a piano......when done right......... it's so good.
