I realize that you can spend days fishing through all of the new comps coming out today, but trust me on this! More Kaos is thirty songs of various styles of hardcore, from the raw aggressiveness of the 22s, Violent Society, and the Striped Basstards to the poppy goodness of bands like The McRackins and Willis, whose "Living Free" is one of my favorite songs of the year. You are even treated to a little ska compliments of Skazel Tov! And Heft. Other highlights include Flag of Democracy (Punk Gun), Fun Girls from Mt. Pilot (Janelles at the Mall), Narcissistic Freds (Sleep), Felix Frump (Grandpa was punk rock) and Latex Generation (Daddy was a Communist). There is nothing else that can be said. This is an awesome compilation full of talented, fun, heavy and unique bands from a hard working little label. Get this as soon as you can. From Suburban Voice #41: This 30 track disc is a pretty strong survey of current US punk (except for Canada's McRackins and the Italian band This Side Up). Hard hitting moments from the always reliable Violent Society, Suspects, Boils, Goons, and Showcase Showdown. Flag of Democracy show no signs of slowing down after 15 years or so in the trenches. Super Hi Five and RPOD also imbue their tracks with staem 'n drive. And, best of all, little happy/poppy-style material and only two ska songs, which can be easily skipped over with the handy remote. From Bad Stain #5: This CD is surprisingly good. It has the Disenchanted, McRackins, Striped Basstards and tons of others (30 tracks!!). This is really a great comp! From Heartattack #17: This disc kicks off with a crusty double-vocal blast by the Boils, who sound exactly like Aus Rotten. From there on it's pretty much old school punk aggression with an occasional commercial sounding pop-punk song. Stand out tracks by the 22's, Flag of Democracy, and Plow United were good. Bands like Violent Society carry the weight of the compilation, and make the less memorable moments easier to digest. Of course, you have your occasional ska tune, but the Skazel Tov! Track is actually a nice break and provides a great intro to the Goons tune "U$A (Useless Sedate Americans) that has two great features; first, it would fit right into the "It Came from Slimey Valley" comp and second, it clocks in under 50 seconds. Hey, there's thirty bands on this CD, most of which provide a good listen. Others I dug were the Narcissistic Freds, the Suspects, Showcase Showdown (a great tune about Marilyn Vos Savant that sounds like it's from Dangerhouse Records). Unfortunately the cover art leaves much to be desired. Pretty good! From Muddle #13: This is a solid mix of punk bands. It starts off with the Boils and ends with Latex Generation and goes through bands like Sleepasaurus, FOD, Super Hi Five, The Suspects, Rhythm Collision, and Showcase Showdown in between. The best song on this is the Plow United song "Attention Asshole". It's so good to hear a newly released Plow song even though we all know what happened to Plow. Consistency pays off here! From MaximumRockNRoll: A 30 song/band disc. Hardcore, retro, and punk rock. The Boils, McRackins, Violent Society, the great Buford, Rhythm Collision, etc. A very strong comp as far as comps go.
