Their first album, Predatory Heat, is a steamy blend of savvy and soul, emotion and wit. The name Mongrel Mix reflects the scope of Preston\'s musical influences as well as the diverse backgrounds of the band\'s members. Originally from New Jersey, Barry Preston moved to Philadelphia where he honed his musical skills and founded several bands, making appearances from Boston to Florida. Preston plays electric and acoustic guitar, banjo, mandolin, harmonica, and all keyboard instruments. A seasoned musician and prolific writer, Preston creates compelling songs that range in feel from savage to tender, and incorporate elements of blues, jazz, funk, R&B, and rock n\'roll. He is also the lead vocalist in Mongrel Mix. Ted Pileggi is the electric bass player. On Predatory Heat he also contributes rhythm guitar performances on electric, acoustic, and twelve string guitar. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Pileggi has been a member of numerous area bands. He also hosted a heavy metal program on a Delaware radio station for five years. Besides heavy metal, Pileggi has been influenced by hard rock of the Van Halen variety, blues, funk, and jazz. Gregory \'Ju Ju\' Jones is the drummer, percussionist, and background vocalist for Mongrel Mix. He claims to have been \'drumming on something\' since he was three years old. Though he has played in bands of various styles all his life, Jones is best known in his native Philadelphia for his work in jazz. He has played with such notables as Byard Lancaster, Donald Bird, Charles Frambough, Norman brown, and Khan Jamal. Jones attended the Granoff School of Music in Philadelphia which has John Coltrane and the Heath Brothers among it's former students. Predatory Heat was recorded, mixed, and produced at Fulcrum Audio, a recording studio owned and operated by Preston just outside of Philadelphia. Enough about the band. You need to listen to this! --------.
