Product notities

Molly Zenobia’s music is soulful, visceral, and vast. She will reconnect you with something that you’ve forgotten about yourself, calling up instincts and memories long buried by the pressures of life. She makes you remember, helps you to work through what was, and guides you to the re-embrace of soul and a sense of self. Zenobia has produced three distinct albums. 'Skin,' features her solo piano accompanied by cello and her once-in-a-generation voice. 'Wind Chains' adds distinctive instrumentation consisting of piano innards, underwater recordings, Irish Whistle, a Mexican mariachi band, tattoo machine, and even a teakettle whistling. “I don’t really consider anything â€-noise.’ I think all sounds are legitimate, so I’m always either banging on something or listening and cataloging.” Blending seamlessly with her voice, piano, and 4-piece band, each sound adds a layer of flavor that sets this album apart. Molly’s 2008 release is 'November Antique.' It is a recording of a powerfully intimate live acoustic show she gave in November 2007. It is unique in that it is unadorned and authentic. It is from the heart. 'Music is so important because it has the power to keep us in the present, something that's become so hard to do in the rest of our lives. So frequently, we're on our way somewhere rather than being somewhere. I feel that we lose something by not stripping bare sometimes… letting something stand on it’s own… letting something be what it is, bumps scratches and all.' 'November Antique' is printed using recycled materials to keep in touch with how important sustainability is to Molly. 'I'm water-catchment obsessed at the moment. And solar. And electricity. And resources management. An ecologically-minded album was the only way to go for me.' Molly has opened for the Foo Fighters, and played on the same bill with Hans-Joachim Roedelius, Rachel Sage, Edie Carey, Mila Drumke and the Dresden Dolls as well as at numerous festivals around the country. She is also currently collaborating with Roedelius on an album, as well as providing piano and vocals to his next release. Regardless of whether she is playing a large rock club, intimate piano bar, collaborating on experimental improvisations, or scoring a film, Molly's music will leave you sated. 'We have so much input these days that we forget that simple is powerful. I may have a lot of production or no production on my albums, but what emerges is always one message, raw, simple, and yours.' The November Antique Story in Molly Zenobia's words: 'After graduating from college and pursuing various musician-appropriate jobs that didn’t leave much time for recording, I promised myself in December 2006 that I would put out a third album before the end of 2007. But things didn’t turn out exactly the way I planned… I dove into work on all the demos for what would be my next studio album: I bought gear, tested microphones on pianos, recorded sound effects, composed orchestra parts, and even constructed my own instrument. I had turned my house into a studio--the dining room was the piano room, the office was the control room, the living room was the drum room--but something wasn’t clicking. Therefore, to keep my promise to myself, I had to make a change of plans… I decided to record a live album and use the proceeds from it's sale to fund the 800-pound gorilla; aka, my studio album. I approached Royer (one of the microphones I’d been experimenting with on my piano) and Mojave Audio to sponsor the microphones for a live show and to my great surprise they said yes! I couldn’t believe it! I quickly re-arranged my “home studio” into a live-recording/concert venue, set a date, and invited everyone I knew to come and share the experience with me. On November 11, 2007 the concert I put on in my house became â€-November Antique.’ As I mention in the CD’s booklet, this was a way to pull myself back up again, to honor the music that has never stopped coming, and the people who never stopped supporting or inspiring me. The entire album is printed on recycled materials and uses soy-based inks. In each package there is a stencil. Inside all of my albums I always put something that reaches out to the listener. I like to make sure they can make something on their own from something I made on my own. The design motif of â€-November Antique’ is that of a field journal like a naturalist would use. This album is the field journal of my heart. The knickknacks seen in the booklet photos are all personal items gathered over time that each hold deep significance for me, and that I hope will speak to the listener as they hear the songs. â€-November Antique’ is the little album that did. It came to me when I really needed it and is offered as a way of giving back.'
