Drawing on a diverse (and often divergent) array of influences, guitarist Robert Sadowski, bassist Bob Mikkelson and drummer Ian Cook have created an instrumental project whose sound locates itself somewhere between an amped-up Medeski, Martin and Wood and a slightly throttled-down Mahavishnu. The music is dark, meditative and exploratory, with a very strong visual/thematic component and an emphasis on mood and emotional intensity over technical stunt-pilotry. And while these are serious players who prove themselves capable of navigating complex time signatures and extended improvisations with the best of 'em, the music is always firmly grounded in the service of the song; when they do venture off into an extended 9/8 passage or stop/start groove, they do so without leaving their audience behind.
