My Love Affair with Words
MIMI LATOINE (Poet, Writer, Director and Producer) is a 2 time performer in the controversial show "The Vagina Monologues," stage managed "Mahalia-A Gospel Musical" and assisted with stage managing "Barefoot in the Park." In addition, she stage managed the theatrical and dance production "Jikela Umbuso" for the South African Dance Company-Umdabu. Well known for her spoken word abilities, she is a lifetime member of the legendary spoken word group-Infinite Currents, is the first female in the city of Birmingham to win the Poetry Slam and is a 2-time winner of this event. She has performed throughout the state of Alabama and Georgia. She has performed and shared a stage with the likes of the late Jothan Callins (Late Jazz Musician), Consuela Lee (Late Jazz Musician and the Aunt of Spike Lee), Chalethia Williams (Acclaimed Actress & Co-founder of Onyx Agency), India Arie, The Last Poets, Amiri Baraka, Sonya Sanchez, and Saul Williams. She wrote, directed and produced "Signature Pieces" which was a poetic stage play. Currently, she is publishing her first book, a memoir of her life,"Bricks On My Soul." Mimi Latoine is the wife of Shayamme Bushango and the mother of 3-beautiful princesses-Iman Ashanti, Indigo Isis and Imperess Agape. She is on a mission to bring the integrity back to spoken word with class and dignity, but most of all... through the spirit of excellence!
