Product notities

'COMPASS ROSE', produced by Dan Marfisi (Poe, Marie Digby, Bratz, Lowen & Navarro, Donna DeLory) and international songwriting duo Lawford & McPeck, contains 12 awesome songs including the tender ballad 'Navigator', the popular single 'Say Uncle', and new versions of Matthew's earlier singles 'The Mountain' and 'Horizon' made just for this collection. Matthew's latest single from 'COMPASS ROSE' is the heartbreaking ballad-with-a-beat 'At Arm's Length', Matthew's favorite song on the album. 'COMPASS ROSE' is a trans-Atlantic rollercoaster through the rough seas of love, loss and self-discovery. The cover, shot by Rian Flynn (with costume design by Vikki Paschetto and makeup/hair by the incomparable Liz Mendoza), dresses Matthew as the captain of an 18th century crew of gallant explorers -- and a few mutinous rogues to boot -- in a desperate search for new horizons. Along the way expect detours to pre-Elizabethan England ('The Nine Days Queen') and even the lost city of Atlantis ('First Mate') while braving storms, ghosts, heartache and starvation. But please don't get lost in such hammy theatrics, dear readers - this is NO concept album. 'COMPASS ROSE' is a tight collection of 12 finely-crafted period pop songs (plus one bonus cello-and-vocal version of 'The Mountain' to make 13!), and you'll never need to dig deeper than it's catchy melodies and biting lyrics. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll roll your eyes - but you'll never be bored! 'Compass Rose' took three years to write and produce, with several hiccups (and a few introductory singles and EPs released) along the way, but now you can purchase it in all it's nautical glory, with a lyrics-filled 12-page booklet created by graphic artist Wil Wells (The Pear Lab). Queer singer-songwriter-producer-remixer-activist Matthew McPeck, of Sicilian, German and Swedish descent, was born in the Bay Area and relocated to Los Angeles with a desire to sail the seas and shake the booty. Troubadour for an audience of 1/2 for nearly ten lonely years, and before that lead vocalist of Beautiful Son, a late nineties independent pop band of modest success, in addition to other less imminent musical acts, Mr. McPeck (also a member of the production and songwriting duo Lawford & McPeck), Matthew started his sinning in a busy Summer '08, releasing his debut EP, the 'HORIZON EP', digitally in June as well as remixing the brilliant 'Stunning' for trans icon/diva Calpernia Addams much to the enjoyment of her wonderful fans. His next release, 'The Music Sounds Much Better When We're Dancing' takes his single 'Horizon' and romances it up on the platform of a euro-electro dance beat, adding some sizzling new lyrics and a killer hook to boot. Matthew's 'The Mountain' EP, released December 1, 2008 in CD and digital formats, contained his first performance as a singer of Lawford & McPeck compositions ('The Mountain', 'Don't Let Go') as well as covers of memorable songs by Janet Jackson ('Miss You Much') and Concrete Blonde ('Joey'). Matthew happily returned to collaboration this year with fellow diva Calpernia Addams on the Pop Mix of her single 'Next' from the soundtrack to the film 'Transproofed', as well as Dj MaSound & Ali.i.a.n on the pulsating trance hit 'Run'. A remix album and more singles followed, all as appetizers to the glorious debut of 'Compass Rose', released digitally in December 2009 and now available at physical outlets (including CDbaby!) as of May 2010. Matthew spent 2 years introducing his sound and personality to fans all over the world through Facebook, Myspace, Youtube and other outlets, reaching on an individual level to his friends and fans via emails and comments (send them! He responds to everyone!), sharing free downloadable musical treats and/or exclusively streaming off beat covers (such as his psychedelic take on Britney's 'Heaven On Earth' his stripped-down rendition of Pussycat Dolls' 'I Hate This Part' or his most recent Moody Blues interpretation 'Your Wildest Dreams') and providing self-deprecating reflections on the state of his blooming music career via his MySpace blog. Matthew is currently in the process of executing a wide-spread promotional campaign for 'COMPASS ROSE', including advertisements through a multitude of music blogs and other entertainment/social networking sites and music videos for the 'COMPASS ROSE' songs 'Navigator' and 'Say Uncle', both of which have surpassed 10,000 views on their respective Youtube pages. A music video for the string-swelled 'At Arm's Length' directed by Mareesa Stertz is next, in addition to a brand new official website and additional live performances and promotional appearances. Please visit Matthew at Facebook or Twitter to get up-to-the-minute updates!
