Still Kickn' & Flat Pickn'
In July 2007, I walked into a friend's recording studio in Upstate, N.Y., with the idea of recording a few of my songs for just my family and some close friends. In the last 40 years I had never recorded my voice and guitar professionally, so I had no idea what to expect. What happened on that day would launch me on a journey of the heart taking over 32 weekends to complete. The first song we recorded was "Loose Change", which proved to be the catalyst for every song that followed since then. It was only fitting that she rightfully take her place as the first song on this CD. It seems coincidental and a bit humorous that "Still Kickn" would be "born" almost exactly nine months after her conception. It now appears appropriate however, since my music seems to explore the human condition and undeniable emotions we all feel. Recording some of my music exposed the deep personal pain of loosing some dear friends and was extremely emotional for me. Other songs display strengthened bonds with family and new found friends. So many people have helped me with their support on this quest; perhaps I have discovered who I really am because of them. I believe this music was allowed to germinate in rich soil and nurtured to maturity with great care. If the honesty of this music reaches your heart, just a little, then I have attained my goal. Love and music are great healers... "Tell someone you love them, then everything's 'gonna' work out fine." I know this to be true first hand. Always save a little space in your heart for a good song. Maybe we will meet on a dusty road, mountain stream or quiet lake somewhere in the beautiful Adirondack Mountains. You just might find me there "kickn'" around a new song. For now, my very best wishes go out to you.......and thanks for listening! Marsh.
