Having completed his BA (Honors) Degree at the Australian National University where he distinguished himself in English Literature and Philosophy, Mark Norton began studying the guitar with Timothy Kain at the Canberra School of Music, Institute of the Arts, ANU, where he completed the Bachelor of Music Performance degree with distinction in 1991. The following year, he completed the Graduate Diploma in Music Performance, also at the CSM. Since then, Mark has established himself as one of Australia's leading guitarists. He won first prize in the Australian National Guitar Competition in 1992 followed by extensive concert engagements which have included national broadcasts for the ABC, solo recitals in most major Australian cities, and many regional areas. Mark is an experienced and sought after chamber musician. He has performed in many varied ensembles, including 'Guitar Trek' with which he toured to the United States, Eastern Europe, Asia and within Australia. He features on two of their CD releases for ABC Classics. Mark is also a composer of guitar music. One of his compositions, included on Guitar Trek's third release 'Sky for Dreaming' enjoyed favorable reviews and substantial airtime on ABC Classic FM. In December 2003, he released his first solo CD entitled 'No Doubt' which also includes original compositions. An experienced and dedicated teacher, Following eight years on the faculty of the Canberra School of Music, ANU, he became the Founding Deputy Director of, and guitar Tutor at, the Casals Academy of Music, Canberra.
