Sometimes at Night
Marie Schumacher is a singer-songwriter, guitarist, pianist and vocal arranger who has released three CDs of original acoustic rock music. Her songs have been featured on KFOG and KUSF in San Francisco. Her influences include Everything but the Girl, the Pretenders, Aimee Mann and the Cowboy Junkies. 'Sometimes at Night' is Marie's third professional recording of original songs. The themes that run through this collection include the magic of night time, the illumination that can occur at night, the way that maturity shapes the creative process, and the way one piece of art can inspire another. This recording features several accomplished musicians from the Northwest: Doug Narry on drums and percussion, Loren Wohlgemuth on bass, and Dave Nicolardi on guitars and keys. Fiddle player Betsy Branch also performs on one track, 'All Things Equal.' It was engineered by Sean Flora, Nancy Hess and Dave Camp. Marie has played on both coasts with several bands, including Agent 99 (60s retro-pop), the John Mariz Trio (jazz), the Big Picture (R & B), and Andrea Hurley (Americana). She was also the musical director of the Harvard-Radcliffe Opportunes, an a cappella doo-wop ensemble. Born and raised in Massachusetts, Marie has lived in Washington, D.C.; Mexico City; the San Francisco Bay Area; and Portland, OR, where she currently resides and performs regularly, both solo and with her band.
