The members of Los Ambienteros come from widely different backgrounds. Latcho and Andrea are originally from Europe, but have made their home for the last 16 years near Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Geo is from Canada and lives on Vancouver Island but spends his winters in Mexico. Their music, too takes influences from around the world and back through time. With two master guitarists authentically producing the sounds of Spanish folk music and gipsy flamenco, and a violinist/guitarist that breathes melody and feeling from his roots in classical, rock and blues, the trio sounds like a much larger group of musicians, garnering comments like 'where is the percussionist?' and 'I can't believe how full and beautiful you sound together!' To trace the origins of this amazing sound, you have to go back some 30 years to the caves of Granada, Spain, where Jorg 'Latcho' Bartelsen lived and learned how to play Spanish guitar from the masters of Flamenco. Later, touring with his band Lailo, the young Latcho played gigs with members of the now-famous Gipsy Kings and other notable musicians of the time in Europe. He met his partner Andrea, (a Flamenco dancer and guitar playing member of the all-girl group ChicaBouM) while they were both touring Europe with a wild west show. Later they travelled and performed with a circus. Pure gipsy life and lots of stories to tell! Together, Latcho and Andrea (the Blond Gypsies), have released 8 albums and a DVD chronicling their career. Although Geo has played music for most of his life, it was recently that he found his true music soul in the heartfelt melodies of Latin and Gypsy music. A big fan of Carlos Santana, Paco de Lucia, Jesse Cook and the Gipsy Kings, his search for the roots of Latin music led him to Mexico, where, in a meeting arranged by mutual friends, he met Latch and Andrea when they played at Sandrinas Restaurant in Bucerious, near Puerto Vallarta. Now, with the release of their first album as Los Ambienteros, a wider audience will be able to enjoy the unique original compositions they have created together.
