It Don't Hurt
CD It Don't Hurt and single Pay For My Sins quotes "I love Lisa's CD. It's my new road trip fave." Meda Kessler, INDULGE O'Kane's third collection continues to impress with her consistent versatility. She ranges from rocking country ("Ain't Done Nothin'" with Albert Lee on guitar) to bluesy balladry ("Pay for My Sins") to ethereal roots ("I'm Done"). There's pain, but not unbearable, and happiness, but not overwhelmingly cloy. You can play it quietly during the card game and crank it up for the white wine after. Buzz McClain/ INDULGE "Lisa is a superstar. With a crystal-clear vice that's brimming with emotion, she draws comparisons with vocal giants such as Judy Collins, Joni Mitchell and Linda Ronstadt, while solidly maintaining her own distinctive style." Preshias Tomes/CyberCountry "I have a confession...I'm not really a country music or folk fan at all. That's what makes the new CD by Lisa O' Kane so good. The songs on "It Don't Hurt" are so well crafted that I don't even hear them as country or folk. I just hear them as good music. She's got the total package on this one: nice melodic music, great voice, thoughtful songwriting...everything. If country music has more to offer like this and the latest Brooks and Dunn, I may have to dig a little deeper to see what I've been missing." Ray Anderson/TheCelebrityCafe.com O'Kane has a rich, clear voice and an ability to tell great, heartfelt stories with it. This album is a moving and beautifully crafted set of home truths worth investigating. Mark Deming - All Music Guide In an era of mediocrity, she stands out. Lisa is a name to watch. Barry McCloud - Country Music Facts & News "O'Kane personifies the cliché 'I could listen to her sing the phonebook,' but how much better to hear that wonderful voice wrapping itself round worthwhile songs." John Conquest, 3rd Coast Magazine "Fans of Emmylou, Lacy J. Dalton, and the like will love this eclectic mix of folk, blues, bluegrass, and rockin' country." CountryHound.com Suffice it to say that It Don't Hurt is a masterful collection of heart-touching songs, wonderfully full, yet simple arrangements, and beautiful vocals. It's modern country with strong nods to the traditional sounds and styles of country music's past. If you don't have this CD, you're missing out on a wonderful musical journey. Mary DuVal / Int's CM Database "O'Kane isn't a rhinestone wannabe; she's a talented and earnest voice that claims a captive listen with songs that reveal, challenge and probe. And she does it with a style that's spirited and emotive. Lisa consistently turns in quality work. The voice is tender and emotionally driven, spurred on with a mixture of crafted and charged songs." George Peden / Country Stars Online "The carefully chosen and exceptionally strong songs are ideal material for Lisa's outstanding interpretational skills and she wonderfully extracts the subtlety from the broad variety of lyrics. O'Kane has matured as a songwriter and vocalist and her confident approach fits in with the current Dixie Chicks and Elizabeth Cook vogue for strong female artists. Lisa's own compositions are strong enough to be among the best moments of the album." Michael Hingston / Country Music People "It Don't Hurt is rich and warm with a polished collection of songs that will stir every emotion." Graham Lees /Trad Music Maker (UK) "The CD really shows off Lisa's range from soft and wistful to soaring and defiant." Maura Sutton, UC Magazine (UK) "It's one of the best CDs that I have heard this year." John Burrows, 3RPP (Melbourne) "Lisa oscillates between crystal-clear singing in the American folk tradition and slightly rougher, honky-tonk marinated singing with a stylish vibrato. It Don't Hurt is an exquisite album in the fruitful and fertile borderland where country music meets the female singer-songwriter tradition". Magnus Eriksson/Rootsy Magazine "Great CD from beginning to end! Delicate is the first word that comes to my mind: delicate arrangements, voice and general presentation." Raul Tejeiro, Top Country Hits Show/ Uruguay - President of the CMA Uraguay O'Kane has an absolutely colossal voice backed up by a top band of country musicians (including Albert Lee). O'Kane is undoubtedly a fantastic performer, and when she picks suitable material ('It Don't Hurt', 'Speed of the Sound of Loneliness'), she blows most artists out of the water". Dan Wilkinson/Americana-UK "Lisa sings with her crystal clear voice...and has made a very good version of John Prine's classic 'Speed of the Sound Of Loneliness". ' Totally a very strong CD and the fact that Lisa has such a soulful voice makes it even better." Timo Kangas, syndicated Swedish music critic It Don't' Hurt is absolutely great, filled with lots of catchy country songs and lots of poetry. I loved each one of them - Max Cooper, RVM104.6 (France-Switz) I still absolutely love her voice -- it's a beautiful instrument. Eddie O'Strange,Town & Country Radio, New Zealand An album full of great songs that satisfies completely. Her musicianship is awesome and the production and performers support her in a very good way. Remo Ricaldone, American West (Italy) Lisa is none of those fancy, marketing brushed-up, overnight-success artists, but rather a down-to-earth diverse singer/songwriter " Bruno Michel, American-Country.ch Lisa takes the listener with her on an impressive journey through the world of emotion. Richard Bammer/ The Vacaville Reporter This bluesy single is the first from Lisa's upcoming disc 'It Don't Hurt'. This is Lisa's third disc. She has gone from old time country, Alt/country to a real bluesy sound on this tune. Her vocals are real full and full of emotion as she is in sync with a real hot studio band. The guitarist is hot, playing some great bluesy riffs. There is a gospel, old time blues theme to this song. The recording is real full sounding and has that big label thing going. Lisa is a pro, she has traveled the world, probably having her best success in Europe and overseas having many hits from her first two CDs there. Would be nice to see her have some AAA success here Jim Moulton Lisa O'Kane has a new single out from her upcoming CD, 'It Don't Hurt'. The song is a real hot old timey blues number with some gospel-flavored lyrics. She has a hot band with a great piano player and a hot guitar player. Lisa is sounding as good as ever, showing better voice control, some real nice vocal nuances, one time she does a note bend with her voice that is uncanny. From this song, looks like a great new CD coming up. Jim Moulton, Jim's Country reviews.
