Falling in Love with Love
In this souvenir of classic love songs, shimmering soprano Linda Edwards puts her refreshing stamp on some of the most beloved of the Rodgers, Hammerstein, and Hart songbook, evoking memories for some listeners, making them for others. The warmth of her voice, the clarity of her tone, and the simplicity of her interpretation bring to mind the honesty of singers of our Big Band past, such as Doris Day or Rosemary Clooney. Her impressive vocal technique and range, her intelligence and sense of humor is reminiscent of Barbara Cook, one of her admitted idols. She deftly flits from the sultry "Isn't It Romantic" to the swing of "You Took Advantage of Me" to the heart-rending "I Have Dreamed" with the ease of a singer rooted in sentiment and substance. Her easy chemistry with Broadway tenor, golden-voiced Mike Eldred on selections from OKLAHOMA, is exhilarating and addictive, while the simple, transparent treatment of 'My Funny Valentine' with gifted arranger/pianist Jeff Steinberg is elegant and heartfelt. The legendary trio of songwriters would be proud. 'Her voice is a beam of light, and carries with crystal clarity.' St. Louis Globe-Democrat.
