Downward Facing Dog
Downward Facing Dog is a five year project of the best tunes I wrote during the final years of my family, which means my late wife Cathy Hedgecock (who passed away in 2005) and son, Joey Michaels (who followed six months later), and our dog, Macaroni (who followed a year after). Whereas the transition of Joey and Cathy was often a difficult path, it was also full of rewards, and moments of joy and contentment as we all learned to appreciate both our time on earth and time together so much more acutely. The outcome was songs that reflect those feelings of loss and helplessness, but also of happiness, and even some resolution. Hopefully the resulting product proves to be a pleasure and challenge to listen to, and a window into the peace and wonder life offers. I want to thank the following for love, encouragement and inspiration: Steve Gibson, Jeremy Steinkoler, Mark and Debbie Berenberg, Bob and Linda Spencer, Jason Grey, Peter Kreutzer, Gene McCaffrey, Steve Moyer, Andrea Hurley, Alan Freedman, Stephen and Karen Clayton, Matthew Charles Heulitt, Jon Arkin, Jennifer Jolly, Steve and Lisa Chattler, Edie, Eric, Jill, Kelly, and Lindsay Hedgecock, Paul McCardle, Bill Alberti, and Tom Nelson, Deborah Angyo Gorman, Mahina the German Shepherd, and Pavlov and Jazzmine the mutts. Additionally, this album would not have been completed without the love and support of Diane X. Walsh, for whom the song Geography Matters was written. Thank you Diany Bonany for helping me out of the darkness. The remaining 11 tunes are written for, and dedicated to the memory of Catherine Hedgecock and Joey Michaels. A portion of the proceeds for Downward Facing Dog are being donated to the Kaiser Foundation Hospice, the Women's Cancer Resource Center, and Students Rock Foundation.
