As a young child, Laverne was being trained in Chicago to become a classically trained pianist. She also developed the skills to become the only woman piano tuner in the state of Illinois. She became interested in playing either types of music and started going to jam sessions in jazz clubs where she began to experiment in the jazz genre. During her rehearsal time, she would practice playing along wih dance and Latin rhythm tracks. As she moves around the local area playing her original music which is a mixture of classical, jazz and dance, she also tunes pianos and continues to study and explore.
