Laurie Roberts and Tammy McMorrow are cousins from Meridian, Idaho who have been singing together for more than two decades-mostly as a part of their church worship team. Although Tammy has an impressive soprano register and Laurie can hit some low alto notes, their voices sound quite similar at times. On this duet CD, they share the lead vocals, and sometimes even they can't tell who is singing which part. After recording two solo praise and worship CDs, Laurie finally got smart and asked her amazing backup singer/cousin to make the move to lead vocalist. Tammy agreed, and this duet project was born. Both girls love singing Christmas music, and Laurie has a few original Christmas songs, so they took this idea to Portland-area producer/engineer Dean Baskerville. In the space of three months they had finished recording this worship-inspired CD. As Tammy says, "won't listeners be surprised to realize they've bought a worship CD?" In fact, two of the tracks begin with contemporary praise songs ("Magnify," written by Tammy and "Your Awesome Name," by Laurie), which are then paired with traditional Christmas carols ("The First Noel" and "O Come All Ye Faithful"). A choir comprised of 20 of Laurie and Tammy's family members brings the Sunday morning congregational sound on four of the tracks (and they sure brought the joy to the studio!). When they're not singing both Laurie and Tammy are public school teachers. And just as their voices cover both ends of the spectrum, so do their jobs. Laurie teaches AP Literature to seniors at Timberline High School in Boise, and Tammy teaches first grade at Indian Creek Elementary in Kuna. Also both lead the worship band at their home church, Meridian Gospel Tabernacle (a non-denominational church founded by Laurie's grandfather in 1940).
