Hold Your Head Up High
Larry Balthazar Solo Guitarist Guitar virtuoso, Larry B, has been inspired by the likes of Carlos Santana, George Benson, Earl Klugh and Larry Carlton. His versatility as an arranger and composer allows him to perform a wide selection of Jazz, Reggae, Salsa, Kompa, R&B and Calypso music. Hailing from the Caribbean, Larry B was first introduced to music by his father, an accomplished violinist, guitarist and drummer, at age 7. His first instrument was the violin, which he quickly transformed into a guitar. As a result Larry fell in love with making music and at the age of 15 he became obsessed with playing the guitar. Each day he plucked at every string until he finally mastered the scales and chords. In 1975, Larry founded a 6 member band called Part II where he played the lead guitar, opening for several popular bands in Dominica including Swingin Stars. After two years with Part II Larry moved on to the also popular Explosion band, which placed first in the Cadence competition in 1978. His big break came in 1980 when Swingin Stars needed a guitarist for their North American Tour. As a member of Swingin Stars Larry toured for five years performing throughout the Caribbean and North America to include several Howard Johnson's chain hotels, the Royal York Hotel (Canada), Cutty's Hideaway (Canada) and the Stardust Ballroom and Palladium (New York). In 1985, Larry recorded, wrote and produced his first album Say No To Crack and due to it's popularity his song Say No To Crack became the theme song for a government subsidized drug program for youths in Dominica. This paved the way for a second successful album called Hoola Hoop. Through the years Larry has shared the stage with famous artists like the late Dennis Brown, Burning Flames, Third World, Arrow and Byron Lee and the Dragonnaires to name a few. Currently, Larry's new CD Hold Your Head Up High, includes a mixture of smooth jazz, R&B, soulful melodies and uplifting Caribbean flavor! With over 20 years of experience, Larry B's style, grace and versatility leaves you with an insatiable desire for more of his hypnotic melodies and his music reflects the musicianship of a master.
