Product notities

Kono Michi's album '9 Death Haiku' is a dark, beautiful and seriously cool collection of songs that she wrote and arranged around the deathbed poems of 18th and 19th century Japanese monks. Using string quartet, drums and bass, Kono Michi combines a unique pop sensibility with her classical experience. Her songs have been played on KCRW, WNYC, BBC Radio 1, 3 and 6 Music in the UK, and her arrangements have been played on NPR. Kono Michi is the singing / songwriting alter-ego of violinist Michi Wiancko, a graduate of Juilliard, who made her solo debuts with the New York and Los Angeles Philharmonics, and whose current season highlights include chamber music performances with Yo-Yo Ma and Emmanuel Ax at Lincoln Center, the recording of a solo album for the Naxos label, a concert at the Kennedy Center with her chamber ensemble, ECCO, and concerto appearances around the country. She's been featured on the cover of Symphony Magazine in 2007 and in 2008 was featured in Classical Magazine, a UK publication. 'a Bjork-like brooding wonderland' - Teletext's Planet Sound 'Michi is a real find; a beautiful voice and a fabulous violin style.' - author, Iain Banks 'Straight outta Brooklyn comes Kono Michi, adding her sleepy, treacly voice to a kooky, electro ?swirl of classical violins and glockenspiel.' 4/5 stars - The List '...her sound is one of dreamy trip-hop and mournful Japanese lyricism supplemented with rock, folk?and even classical elements... Opener When I Don't Come Back swooned and swelled like some restless ?nightmare, the singer's vocals augmented by her shimmering violin, while Dark Eyes began softly but?built to a heavy, string-led salvo evocative of Arabian exoticism' 4/5 stars - The Scotsman (live review) 'Dark and deeply satisfying.' - FeastOfMusic.com 'Inspired by the likes of Swedish singer-songwriter Stina Nordenstam and composers ?such as Claude Debussy and Gyorgy Ligeti, her wraith-like orchestrations ?and electronic chimes are lovingly assembled in her apartment studio.' - Metro 'Kono Michi takes one area of virtuosity - her violin playing - and matches? it with a voice and an ear for unique songwriting.' - MusicTowers.com.
