The name 'Katharticus' is derived from the Greek word 'Katharsis' which means 'of the heart, an emotional outpouring, an emotional purging, an emotional climax.' I n order to capture the sense of the emotional outpouring and excitement at our gigs, we used a rather cool, risky and unorthodox recording technique where the lead guitar parts and the drums were recorded LIVE together, and most of the rhythm guitar parts were recorded live as well. We did not use click tracks as we wanted the songs to breathe and flow naturally so that the essence, urgency and excitement of the emotions are captured and feel alive rather than sterile and produced. Normally, Lead Guitars are over-dubbed. Just as the emotions of the human heart and soul can not be contained to a regimented format, most of our songs are well over four minutes long (two are around 8 minutes). The band has three Main Signature Sounds. One is a Feel Good Melodic heavy rock sound to which people often sing along to at gigs. The second sound is our emotional heart-cry with screaming searing guitars that endeavor to express the emotional turmoil of the soul in musical form, and the third sound is a rather ambient atmospheric feel. This album contains two instrumentals. We refuse to be boxed in, or to be constrained to only one genre.
