Ad Astra Per Aspera
We are 11 young gentlemen from a variety of places and have come to know each other through rock and roll music. We live together and are moving to Nashville, Tennessee. 'As with all truly transcendent art, the souled-out, funky surf rock of the Kansas Bible Co. Embodies a culture all it's own. Their music, their message, and their lifestyle both as a group and as eleven individuals exist as exercises in maximalism. From what I've heard so far of debut Ad Astra Per Aspera ("Through adversity to the stars"), each track stands alone as a mission statement, with the couplet "To hell with moderation/ Everything to infinity" from "Moderation" tying it all together. KBCo.'s fully fleshed-out yet balanced sound recalls the heyday of Detroit rock and the Dionysic worldview of other riotous, sizeable collectives like Broken Social Scene and the Brian Jonestown Massacre, as they seamlessly merge a five-piece horn section with chugging, reverb-friendly guitars and vocals that croon and carouse in equal measure. Emerging from various locales in the Midwest and converging in the unheralded haven of Goshen, Indiana, theirs is a welcome, habitable star in a galaxy where the Holy Trinity orbits it's supposed opposite: sex, drugs, and rock and roll. I'm happy to keep coming back to the Bible for the horns.' - C.J. Hinojosa, 'Strip Mines'
