Product notities

Since I was a little lad I always dreamed of being a musican. I'T wasn't until middle school that i started to pick up the guitar. It all started on my Grandma's front poarch. My cousin John Jett and I would beat on a trash can and a five gallon bucket to TLC, G Love and Pop tunes of the 90's. Then as time passed i decided to bring over my Symphonic guitar with built in amp on it. I could not play it! I could only make crazy loud sounds and break strings on it but it was still cool. As we got older and grew in taste from playing to TLC, John got a real drum set for His birthday. Well it wasn't much. It was a black sound source set with no hi-hat just a sheet metal symbol, snare, bass, and tom. We started to jam together with my guitar out in my Grandmas shed, but mostly took turns playing the drums to CD's. I finally got an electric guitar and amplifier for Christmas that year and learned some chords and a powerchord or two. We started to jam to Lynard Skynard, The Steve Miller Band, and bands of that nature. We Met a Guy From Church named Ben Shumpert who was a little older than us who played guitar. He would come over on sundays after church and jam with us. He taught me some more power chords and how to like Nirvana because all he played was teen spirit which i thought was so cool. He eventually got a girlfriend and never really came around anywhere so we were down to the two of us again. We went on a church ski trip and i brought my guitar and mini amp. It turns out that our friend Adam Corbett was picking up guitar too, so we jamed a bit and liked it. We invited him to the Shed (as we started to call it). His style mixed well with us and we recorded some of our stuff on a karoke machine, which i still have today. As we grew in music we had to expand so we buit a bigger shed to accomodate our growing and need for space for equipment. We named our band Jencycle. We realized that we needed a bass player to be a band so Adam decided that that it was his calling to play bass. We played for about 2 years and made a full album at the studio. I was the lead singer and it sounded like i had smoked for 40 years becuase my voice was changing. We countinued to play long after that and became best friends. Those were some of the best days of my life so far. In early 2004 Jencycle Split. John wanted to be a front man and play only his songs. Adam and I decided to stick together and keep moving forward. We worked so well together musically. One night we were on his front porch hanging out as always. We started thinking of a name for our new band and decided that we would make an album together. We came up with the name Gossamer Strait. We finally finished the album that we recorded in various places. We were very excited and ready to start playing but we needed a drummer. We came across a guy named Tookie. Oh yes! He brought out the funk in us and we had a good time. We played the Aw shucks festival and then he became unreliable and finally we lost touch with him. Then Josh Latham started jamming with us, and i must say that he was an excellent drummer. We played our first big show and last at New Brookland Tavern a few days before Christmas that year. After Gossamer Striat, I joined John's band Dogwood Saint. I made it a 5 piece. We were an acoustic band with bongos. The height of the band was Locals Live and Being interviewed and playing on our local rock station 93.5. Shortly after that 3 guys left the band. John, Brandon, and I had to keep the band going. I was never really into the music that much because is was not my style. We continued to play shows and open mic nights. I started playing piano, and melodica at gigs, along with lead guitar to fill up missing members. In November of 2005 John, the lead singer and songwriter of Dogwood Saint, decided to focus on other things. He quit the band shortly after, and the band broke up. Since then I have been working on my own material and have been able to express everything I have always wanted to musically! I hope things continue to go well for me in the future! I am following my dream. I will see how far it takes me. Hopefully to the top! Thanks to all the fans for your support! Hope to see you around soon! Thank you, Justin Petrey.
