In the Valley of Secrets
Joni Renee is an activist and English teacher who has recently captured the attention of the thriving Southern California art community with her paintings, original music, poignant short stories, charity fundraisers, and performance art pieces. Joni studied performance art at the University of Tel Aviv in Israel as well as with the Guild of Bedouin Tribal Artists of Sinai in Egypt. Her work is greatly influenced by Marina Abramovic, Hila Yalon, and slam poets such as Iyeoka Ivie Okoawo. Her music has been described as 'intellectual, seductive, hurtful...somehow, inspiring'. With an unequaled alto voice, original style and iconic red hair, she has quickly garnered a loyal crowd of fans at local venues such as The Gypsy Den and the Broadway Theater in Santa Ana, where she performs weekly. Her songwriting stands apart in it's biting honesty, being hailed by the Hollywood Arts and Culture Magazine as 'the breath of razor-sharp brutality that Orange County's jeans-and-tans girly pop needs.' Joni's music is influenced by her namesake, Joni Mitchell, as well as Regina Spektor, Fiona Apple, and Lauryn Hill.
