Because many of the songs on this CD relate to memory and forgetting, perhaps it is appropriate that I can't remember exactly how this project came to be. I remember that Ernie and I started getting together in 2009 to explore some ideas we had for new music and to play some songs we had played together in years past. The next thing I remember is that we were in the midst of the recording process, trying different arrangements, with Ernie feverishly learning the pros and cons of various recording technologies and putting in countless hours. I want to thank all of the people who made this project possible: the families Kolaga, Kubiniec and Palmer; the wonderfully talented musicians who appear on this CD; our patient and brilliant recording engineer David St. Onge; my cousin Tim Bies, who first made me want to play music; my guitar teachers John G. Brady and Mike Zak; and, most of all, my wife Judy and children Christian and Alison, who I love more than I can express. Finally, I want to say a special heartfelt thank you to my life-long friend and collaborator Ernie Palmer, without whom this recording would not have occurred. I will never forget his generosity, creativity and energy throughout this process. ~ John Kolaga Back in the 70's, John Kolaga and I used to hammer out tunes as teens in his parents' basement on 73rd Street in Niagara Falls, NY, and multi-track using a cassette recorder and inferior microphones. Neither of us could have imagined back then that, after raising families and tending to some arguably successful careers, we could release this collection of songs, 30-odd years later. I look forward to continuing to make music with my good friend, because working on this project was probably the most fun I've ever had in my life. Thanks to John, for providing the direction, creative musical spark and outstanding lyrics to this project. Also, I'd like to send my heartfelt thanks and love to my wife Michele, who contributed great patience while I turned our basement into a recording studio, and provided her sweet singing voice to several tracks; my beautiful daughters; Christeen, Eileen, Jaclyn, Julianne, and Laura who make me so proud; and my sweet little Scottish mom Jeanie, the bravest woman I know. Thank you to our recording engineer, David St. Onge, for putting up with us, and we deeply appreciate the contributions of talented musicians and good friends Cave Wilson from Buffalo, NY, and Natalie Bock from Lewiston, NY. ~ Ernie Palmer.
