I am a story-minded songwriter whose mission is to help those in need with his music. My desire is that God will use these songs to lift burdens from the hurting and pour out His blessings on all who listen. I can't remember a time when I wasn't surrounded by music. My Irish mother raised 10 kids and she credited music for giving her the strength to carry on. She knew more songs than anyone else I've ever met. I started memorizing songs at the age of 7 because I loved the power of singing. I bought my first guitar when I was in the U.S. Navy in 1963. A guy in my crew who played hounded me to learn the chords and insisted that I practice. After the Navy, my brother and I played together frequently around hundreds of campfires. In 1980 I entered a treatment center to deal with my alcohol abuse. God's love delivered me from drinking and it was there that I began writing songs. Some fellow residents were leaving the program and I felt very intensely that I wanted to give them some encouragement as they reentered the world. I sat down and wrote "I wish for you" and felt as if the words were being given to me by the Lord. I have been writing and singing ever since and pray that God would continue to use my words and music to spread His hope.
