Product notities

INTRO It has been a long time coming, but here is my first full-blown commercial album release. The album is good, and I am glad we made the decisions we did in making the recordings. Todd Adelman did a nice job of producing. PROMOTION Now, marketing. Self promotion, tours, incredible hard work. The trouble is, (a) promotion is time consuming and requires effort. Effort? Not really where I find happiness - if it ain't easy and natural, then effort must be used I suppose. Plus, (b) there are so many recordings out there. What?.... hundreds of thousands? How would a shopper ever find and buy this album? Or.... Do people buy albums any more? The known one's, I suppose. But how to become 'known?' BUT ENOUGH narcissistic whining!! Yup, I am as much a narcissist as the next guy - does that help my album sales? Probably not, but I do like the word 'narcissist' it is so self deprecating in a 'I am all that matters sort of way' and so FUNNY! HA! WORKING IN A STUDIO: Well, working on a recording in a studio is a lot easier if you are not in the proverbial hot seat. Otherwise, it's like 'get on the beat!' 'Play a more regular pattern on that guitar of yours!' 'It's buzzy!' 'Let's do another take,' 'best we get a studio musician in here to handle that part.' Definitely, this album 'REDRAW THE LINE' benefits from some very excellent musicians. It was a major pleasure to have these megatalents interpret and vibe on my basic work. We went through couple drummers, guitar players and bass players. But, you gotta get the takes dialed, don't you. This recording is the best performance we could muster at the time. Anything less than best you can muster ain't the ticket! Over all, working in the studio is great - best possible. Playing, singing, hanging out with fellow musicians - what could be better than that? RECORD V. PERFORMACE Does the live performance entertain? Is it good enough compared to the recording? Will I flub it? But, it is really amazing how fast a set goes, once you are up there stage. Naturally, the answer to the above questions is YES! At least for me. If you, or any other audience members 'get it' then I know you will be digging the tunes. So that's good enough for me - and you, I hope. The live sound is rawer, edgier, but the studio album is nice and smooth for repeated listening. I still travel a lot for gigs and for work. Often, when I am working out of town, I will look up open mics in the town in question and show up at the open mic. OM's are very fun. I wonder if there are more now than ever before? Do you know the answer?
