Space of Brightness
This is an album about light & darkness, love & death. It is dedicated to the persecuted church - people in nations all over the earth who face unimaginable adversity because of their faith in God. They are beaten, tortured, rejected, imprisoned, and even executed simply because the love of Jesus has captured their hearts, and they love their country too much to not share Him with them. I wanted to tell their story. I particularly wanted to write from the perspective of being put in prison for one's faith. So with lots of research and a good imagination, I crawled into the prison cell with persecuted Christians around the globe, endeavoring to put poetry and melodies around their experiences. Most of the songs are written from that perspective. We can assume all day long that being in prison would be the worst thing to experience. It is...and it's not. I found that it all depends on who you know. It turns out that God is alive, that He's full of love, and that He's just as real in a dark dungeon as He is in the wide, open countryside. There is a depth to life when one decides not to waste it. In the darkness, in the wilderness, and even in a rotten prison cell it is possible to hope, to love, to dream, to sing. Perspective is everything. "Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering." - Hebrews 13:3.
