Jebediah Goodthrust is the longtime alias of Nelson Heise's four-track tapes and demos he has handed out to friends and band mates throughout the years. What sprung out of a Halloween costume in the late 90s, has stuck and is finally seeing the light of day (The costume was to be an Amish, rock, porn-star). The approach to this disc was pretty simple; write tunes, figure out the parts and then play everything. The album's recording process is very much influenced by Paul Westerberg, Neutral Milk Hotel, Guided by Voices & Daniel Johnston. There are many other artists that influenced Jebediah including Tom Waits, the Beatles, the Kinks, Pixies and Lou Reed/the Velvet Underground. How much of that is heard within the recordings is left up to the listener. There are many more influences both popular and obscure, so if one hears something that is similar to someone else other then aforementioned artists, they are probably right. Nelson is also known as the lead singer/guitarist for the bands, The Hit & Mrs., The Heise Bros. & Munkey Juice. Some of those bands will be producing more music in the future, but for right now it's Jebediah Goodthrust time. Nelson also writes album reviews for Rift Magazine in Minneapolis and Dig This Real in New York, so if you need any freelance album reviews done, give him a shout. Also, if you have any cool bands for him to check out let him know. When Nelson is not dressing up as an Amish, rock porn-star he is a drug and alcohol counselor. He has a Masters in Addictions Counseling and slowly working his way to a PhD. in Counselor Education. He has beautiful 1 ½ year old daughter (Paige) and a wife (Deb) that he's lucky to have. He resides in Columbus, OH.; enjoys soccer, Reds baseball, comedies, documentaries and rock biography books. From the heart of Ohio... ...comes two new CDs from musician Nelson Heise. On the first CD, "Ashes Of Bridges", Heise is one member of the trio The Hit & Mrs. On the other, he tries his hand at a solo offering under the name Jebediah Goodthrust. And, years ago, Nelson served as front man of the band Munkey Juice. Confused? Good, because so am I. Still, maybe we can thank Heise's multiple personality disorder for the solid storytelling and interesting arrangements that come out in his music. With each new project, Nelson appears to become more subtle, concentrating more on the role of singer/songwriter than that of your standard lead singer/guitarist. "Ashes Of Bridges" is a more stripped-down punk version of the disc that came before it, 2007's rock/alt-country full-length "Buried In The Backyard Of My Heart." And "Jebediah Goodthrust" is even leaner in it's tone, giving listeners what may be Heise's most serious offering to date. Of course, the whole idea of Jebediah Goodthrust came from a Halloween costume that Heise created of an Amish rock/porn star, so what the f*** do I know about how "serious" he is or isn't trying to be? Regardless, it's been interesting to hear the evolution of his sound over the span of numerous projects. Just don't be surprised when his next band turns out to be some alien hillbilly/titty-rock hybrid. Click here to learn more about The Hit & Mrs., and here to learn more about Jebediah Goodthrust.
