Jae Duncan, sometimes known as 'JaStar', is a beautiful vocal butterfly whose musical style has been influenced by such jazz legends as: Ella Fitzgerald, Carmen McRae, Sarah Vaughan, Shirley Horne and Nancy Wilson. Jazz stylings are Jae's passion and gift. Jae was one of many local artists that had recurring performances at The Islander Caribbean Restaurant & Lounge "U Street Jazz" series and the Westminster Friday Night Jazz Series. She jammed with some DC's finest musicians at local clubs and group functions. She also performed regularly at her church and was a featured vocalist at numerous open house ceremonies, grand openings, weddings and private celebrations. In May 2002, she toured with gospel singer, Liz McComb, as part of the L'esprit Jazz Series held in Paris, France. From 1997-1999, Jae performed with the Washington Performing Arts Society's "Women of the Gospel", which sill performs annually at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC. In January 1998, she was handpicked for backup vocals with guest artists Ann Nesby and Tremaine Hawkins. Jae located her Atlanta jazz roots and has been performing at well-known jazz venues, such as Apres Diem, Churchill Grounds, Queen of Sheba, Twains since 2007. With the help of musical producer, Kerry Bogart, musical director, Walter Bland and co-lyricist, Blessings Edwards, Jae has embarked on her first independent 'world music' endeavor.
