Don't Let Go
Described as 'fresh' and relevant, the songs on my new CD strive to make you think about the trials and tribulations of growing up, falling in love, dancing, and enjoying life's many joyful moments. Written near Mobile Bay and Orange Beach on the Gulf Coast of Alabama (before the BP Oil Spill), I try to write songs that are descriptive and filled with life. I love to 'play on words' (such as I do in my song, 'So We Lie' ('so we lie to each other...so we lie with each other...so we lie for each other...so we lie by each other'), and use lyrics to tell a story. I love to conjure up those intimate moments between two people, as I do in my song, 'Don't Let Go' ('so tell me all your secrets and I'll fall asleep to your voice once again'), or those times when people hide what they really feel, as I do in 'Beneath the Surface' ('beneath the surface, the secrets of those who can't hide.'). My first concert was a Three Doors Down concert in Orlando, Florida. Matt Roberts of Three Doors Down, who lives near me, introduced me to Brandyn Ulmer, of Top of the Orange (and one of the best guitar players in Alabama!). Brandyn taught me all about song structure and melodies in my living room when I was 16. Loretta Handy, who sang and traveled with the Otis Redding Band ('Sittin' on the Top of the Bay'), taught me how to sing with passion and from the heart. My first live performance as a pop singer, was at The Wharf Amphitheater in Orange Beach at an Ocean Street Music Festival. It was an incredible experience. My voice teacher, opera singer Linda Zoghby, taught me how to hold notes and have confidence in myself as an artist, and Thomas Boni, Editor of our local newspaper (where I had my own teen column in high school), taught me how to be free with my words. I also worked with awesome local musicians to record this CD in Mobile, including Matt Damico, the engineer and bass guitarist, Nick Chamblee on accoustic and electric guitar, John Madden on drums, and Brian Catlin on keyboard. Now that I attend college at Northwestern University near Chicago, Illinois, my songs will continue to evolve and grow. I love knowing that people like you will be enjoying my songs in places all over the country and world. Thanks for listening and ENJOY!
