Flotsam is a part one of a conceptual musical series which chronicles the story of Nan. An everyman. But, not a number. Replete with hidden nemeses, packaged realities and involuntary space travel, the album offers a fluid listening experience described by others as spacey and experimental, swinging on a stylistic pendulum between electronic and minimalist ambient music to experimental, synthesizer-driven art rock. Mostly instrumental in scope, the album focuses on atmosphere and story telling. As such, the album is better when experienced as a whole, rather than it's individual parts. ... ANOTHER LONG DAY The rush hour traffic was stop and go as the rain began to pour from a gray, darkening autumn sky. Red tail lights illuminated the oil and rain soaked pavement as Nan made his way home from work. UNWINDING Relieved to be home, Nan made himself a drink . REFLECTING IN THE SOFT BUZZ OF THE EVENING As he sat and watched the rain continue to fall from his living room window, sipping at his drink, he felt a disconcerting twitch, as if an unknown presence was lurking. NIGHTFALL Daylight faltered as he dismissed his dark thoughts, eyes growing heavy, DRIFTING into a light and restless sleep upon his couch. He found himself traveling aboard a massive steel vessel upon an infinite ocean that stretched at irregular and sick angles. And as thunder rolled, lightning illuminated the strange surroundings, revealing a funnel-shaped, ocher storm cloud spinning ominously on the horizon. In truth, the funnel cloud filled the horizon, devouring everything in it's path. The gray, metallic ship glowed purple in the fierce flashes of static electricity, water running in sheets down it's uniform and cold sides. Another deafening boom sent the ship rolling and Nan found himself awake on his couch, shaking and wet with sweat. ...continued on album liner notes.
