Ivana D'Arc is a female-fronted power metal band founded by vocalist Ivana Horbatenko. Ivana was born in Banfield, Buenos Aires, Argentina. At a young age, Ivana's ukranian/Russian inmigrants family used to take her to the Russian orthodox church in Temperley, Buenos Aires, where she first felt attraction to the choir music after seeing her godmother Ludmila Briansky, a famous local piano concertist who was a teacher in the Music Conservatory of Banfield, directing the Church Choir. In 1989, Ivana's father, who loved the idea of having a family member interested in music, took her to the U.S. In Chicago Ivana joined the Mrs. Jlubicic's Schurz Vocal Majors with a friend. That year the group won the State Contest. She really enjoyed classical music but returned to her homeland, Argentina, where she became a law student at UNLZ for five years. Because Ivana never forgot about her other passion, she was almost a lawyer when returning the second time to the U.S. winning some awards and recognitions as female singer and song writer. She was part of Chicago's local Rock en Español scene and had an independent video for the song 'Esperandote' playing on MTV since 2000 and air play, while also representing the only one rock magazine in Spanish Rock Clandestino from NY/NJ for the Chicago area during the periods 2000-2003, helping independent bands to get exposure to the music industry. In the year 2007 Ivana Horbatenko became one of the persons responsible for bringing to Chicago the last and Good-bye tour of the legendary argentine and international honored singer Mercedes Sosa. Back in the year 2002 Ivana met guitarist and writer Israel Mendoza who joined her band. He became the other leader by showing his amazing musician and producer skills. Israel was born in Mexico City and showed his passion for rock at an early age when he first picked up an old guitar and asked his uncles to teach him how to play. Israel was influenced by the usual metal bands everybody likes: Ozzy Osbourne, Metallica and Pantera, among others. When he met Ivana he was an enthusiastic young man who wanted to create and share his music with the world. They both directed the band's steps and changed it's course when going from a rock/pop style to the Neo-classical symphonic power metal. Vocalist Ivana Horbatenko sings in both languages, Spanish, her mother tongue and English, representing the country that adopted her, the United States of America. Her voice is mastered into a soprano and rock style, while Israel adds his powerful guitar riffs and orchestral arrangements. They are also proud to show they are big fans of Nightwish since they started with singer Tarja Turunen. By the end of 2008, Miguel Garcia, dedicated drummer who played for Monospit, helped in their project. They were about to enter the studio to show everything they were creating and keeping from the public's ears. The Album: Finally in February of 2010, they have their new release and they named it S.M.Q. after their song Symphony Metal Queen! This album really has a variety of flavors, a powerful beat, and the fantastic tales are splashed all over the songs!
