Moon Shine on Me.
Áine Uí Cheallaigh is twice winner of Corn Uí Riada, the highest accolade possible for sean nós singing. She is the original soloist with Riverdance, remembered particularly for the song 'Lift The Wings', and she originated the role of Evleen in the Broadway Musical 'The Pirate Queen' in 2006. ÁIne says, 'This album is a magpie mix of songs that I love. It has been a pet project of mine for years and each song is associated with particular people who have brought joy into my life, and to the lives of many others, through their generosity in passing on their music. When I finally decided to make this recording, Frankie Lane was the obvious choice as musical partner for me. His instrumental arrangements are full of colour and imagination. He has woven guitars, mandolin, pedal steel, dobro and keyboards with beautiful lightness, enhancing every track. It has been a pleasure working with him, even though he maintains the album is full of more misery and death than should be allowed in any one sitting! That's traditional singing for you! My heart is still in Irish song, both in theEnglish and Irish language, but the influences of my time spent singing outside the tradition have opened me to using accompaniments which retain the essence of the song but introduce a new colour to the melody. I hope these versions will capture the hearts of the listeners.' The words of all the songs and their sources are given in full in the CD notes, with translations into English where necessary.
