Somewhere in the Vicinity
In the 25-plus years that Home at Last has been performing, we've found ourselves in the usual array of clubs, bars, colleges, and halls. We've been to places near -- New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania... and far -- Orlando and San Francisco. We've performed in the middle of a main street, at a campground, and on a ferry. But I don't think we ever imagined ourselves performing a set of rock and roll in a church hall in Cedarville, NJ. Yet this is where we were on this magical evening in May of 2009, doing a set at an invitation-only event headlined by Pat Dinizio of the legendary Smithereens. Pat, being the gracious man that he is, agreed to let us accompany him on some Smithereens tunes in addition to performing our own material. And we used the opportunity to have our old and dear friend George Cuccia record the proceedings. The end product of which you now have in your hands. The night was a special one for us. The audience was lively and receptive; the food on the evening's menu was delicious; the hall was comfortable and conducive to an intimate performance; our good friend Mike Scheulke turned up and shot a boatload of great pictures; another great friend and musician Scott Erickson turned up to play a few tunes; and a great time was had by all. We are grateful and thankful to everyone - and there are many - who helped make this evening so memorable for us, and this CD is our way of sharing those memories again with those of you who may have been there, and our way of giving those who weren't at least a taste of what it was like to be somewhere in the vicinity!
