Herbsquare's 'Blue' album is a richly orchestrated journey deep into the heart of glitch and IDM. It is intelligent music which challenges the listener while remaining listenable and soothing at the same time. 'Redemption' is the infrastructure of herbsquare's ideology, and each track on 'Blue' has been built from pieces of things- toys, furniture, circuit-bent home electronics, beats, sound-bytes and ideas- which have been broken or fragmented in some way. These pieces are then recombined to create things of great beauty which far exceed the sum of their constituent parts. Several tracks are the result of collaborations with artists from around the world working via the internet (Bitchip Munkey, Dopamine), built up over time as each artist responds to, contributes and adjusts the work of the other. Other tracks on 'Blue' began their lives as bits of live sets (Seven Again, Ears) created spontaneously in neighborhood clubs, bars and 'live-houses' in the Tokyo-Yokohama area which herbsquare calls home.
