Heart of the Minstrel on Christmas Day
This is the earliest in-print music from Harvey Reid, and is one of the recordings that 'put him on the map.' His brilliant fingerstyle and flatpicked guitar and inimitable autoharp arrangements of classic Holiday tunes set a deep mood, and have been a perennial favorite around New England for decades. Reid has been one of the most sought-after folk performers in December, largely as a result of this recording. He was a pioneer in direct-to-digital recording, (though much of this record was done on reel-to-reel recorders) and was also probably the first independent artist to release a CD. (He has now released 25 albums and several books on his own label, Woodpecker Records and is a notable indie-music success story) Many of the cuts here were recorded in 1984 and released on a very limited-edition cassette titled 'The Christmas Project'. Additonal cuts were added in 1987 and again in 1990 when the CD was first released. In 2009 the CD was re-mastered.
