Hey! Bahtoondah! (Hey! Bartender!) (Music and Lyrics by Fred Barnett) Some claim that the drink called "The Zombie," was first introduced by Donn (Don the Beachcomber) Beach in the 1930's. Not! This one is for Ben. The beverage called the Zombie was not perfected until the late 1950's, when it was "supercharged" by a quick thinking Haitian bahtoondah (bartender) known simply as Heymon. Our hero, the humble "Bahtoondah," probably had saved humanity from a potentially devastating Zombie plague. The heroic event took place during the destruction caused by Hurricane Zelda, on July 12,1957, at the famous Port O' Princess' Flamingo-au-Go-Go Bar. Suddenly appearing at the stroke of midnight, the town bully, Theo, dominated the doorway of the 'bah.' Behind him, stood his date for the evening-- a drooling, eight-foot-tall Zombie named Jujube. On that night, majority of the Port's residents were huddled together in the bar for safety. When Theo knew that he had blocked the only escape route, he then ordered Heymon to mix drinks for himself and his cold date---- "or my sweet little Jujube will eat the pickled brains of everybody in the place.' Without even looking up, the brave Heymon worked feverishly to prevent the impending massacre by concocting a drink that would stop the Jujube's all consuming passion for 'brain food.' The Bahtoondah's ingenious addition to the already popular cocktail was the herb known as Datura (jimson weed) which his grandmother had told him could paralize any Zombie. Heymon added an extra heavy dose of Datura to famous cocktail. The creation, "the Perfect Zombie," did the job. It was not only strong enough to knock out Jujube, but was credited with stopping Hurricane Zelda! 'Hey! Bahtoondah!', the song honoring the great Heymon, has become an international hit now heard in Caribbean and Tiki-themed bars all over the world.
