Drop the Dime
The Green Jacket formed in mid 2009. Rhy (violin, guitar, vocals) met Jackie (piano, flute, vocals) at one of the worst dive bars in Vista, CA on April Fools. They fell in love immediately, and started a band virtually the next week. 'The Green Jacket' is that band. Rhy was a weary road veteran having played in 'The LeperKhanz' for the previous 6 years, and also touring extensively with 'The Bleeding Irish', culminating in a failed Vans Warped Tour stint in 2008. Jackie had played piano professionally since high school, and putting together a band with Rhy only seemed natural. Brian McGee, the brother of Kelley McGee, noted painter, and wife of Aaron Hudson (Saxophonist for 'The LeperKhanz' 2006-2009) had recently moved back to California after touring the country with his previous band (*Citation Needed*), and was looking for a gig. Aaron sent him over to Rhy and Jackie's, and the trio only needed a bassist to get on the road. Rhy had previously played with Byron Blocker in 'The Bleeding Irish', and knew Byron was the perfect match for the giant new party grooves they were creating. 'The Green Jacket' was born. Touring Southern California and gigging almost every weekend since inception, 'The Green Jacket' began to develop enough original material to merit some quality time in the studio. Recorded over most of 2010 with original drummer Brian and original bassist Byron, this album features a big selection of original compositions by lead singer Rhy and a smattering of Irish traditional tunes, beefed up beyond recognition. Originally recorded live in Ocean Beach, CA, during some of the hottest days on record, the initial tracking was almost completely replaced subsequently in several studios throughout Southern California. The album was originally tracked in Pro Tools, but was mostly mixed and mastered using open source programs like Ardour and Audacity. Since the album was recorded the band has changed a bit, as Byron and Brian went on to form popular LA band 'Byron Blocker and the Offbeats'. New bassist Steven Stotlemyre (previously a member of 'The LeperKhanz' and 'Oceanside Sound System') and drummer Ben Monarque joined the band in early 2011, and the hits just keep on coming. If you are in SoCal at any time, come out to the show, and make sure to friend the band on FaceBook!
