Love's Best Habit
While there have been scattered attempts to set Shakespearian sonnets to music, there has never been a complete album that works symbiotically with these poems. The songs serve to enhance the sonnets, not simply rely on the famous source material. The first goal during the song writing and production processes was first and foremost to create an album that could and ultimately does stand on it's own, with or without the Shakespearian influence. The second was to bridge the gap between a western poetic paradigm and modern popular culture. Just as Kenneth Branagh, Baz Luhrmann and Julie Taymor have brought the plays of Shakespeare to the public consciousness with their cinematic adaptations, this album strives to bridge the gap between an inaccessible, academic image of Shakespeare and 21st Century sensibilities. This collection is comprised of nine of Sonnets, book ended by an Overture and instrumental Exit Music, and was entirely self-financed and produced with the help and contributions of many hands that make this album a truly collaborative piece.
