Get Down Boogie Sound / Various [Import]
(United Kingdom - Import)
The hidden sound of black America is boogie, a funk-meets-soul hybrid that dominated US clubs at the start of the 1980s. In the late 70s a backlash against disco saw black American dance music pushed underground, but vibrant creativity helped to form the next step. BGP's latest compilation shines a light on the club sounds of the early part of the 80s, music which combined funk and soul with the first flowerings of electro and rap music. Compiled and annotated by UK DJ and recording artist Julian Jonah, this club music is exciting collectors all over Europe today. The selections include rare 12-inch mixes and full-length album tracks, lifted straight from the original master tapes. These are the sounds that would fire up the dance music explosion of the late 80s. If you want to find out where electronic dance music began it is all here. The records featured include club classics from Carol Williams and JT plus collectable obscurities by Rare Essence, Steptoe and Mynk. A glance at the production credits shows the involvement of such important figures as Leroy Burgess and Arthur Baker.
