Katie Stares at the Moon
This album is a mix of sounds from ealy 60's to bluegrass. Mike West of 'Truckstop Honeymoon' plays the heck out of instuments from banjolin to smokin rock guitar. A truly amazing musician. His sweetie Katie Euliss slammed the standup Bass throughout the Album. Colin Mahoney is the drummer with tasty rhythms on everything that shakes rattles or rolls. Harry Miller adds some fine piano and organ licks and his honkeytonk piano swing on 'Hard Times' would do the amazing Floyd Cramer proud. Now Trica Spencer is a fiddle player beyond discription. Her take on 'Restless Mind' is haunting and the absolute classic bluegrass buzz on I love my truck is ... perfect! The songs range from early 60's vanilla rock and roll to current political sarcasm with traditional folk and even a cowboy song with haunting Mike West guitars thrown in. While some of the tunes are a bit dark a thread of hope is the tie that binds. Mike and Katies 9th Ward Pick'n Parlor in Lawrence Kansas provides the room which gave us the sound and atmosphere of classic studios of the past....think Muscle Shoals. If you are a musician thinking of busting out, head for Lawrence...the musicians and the hospitality can't be beat! Oh yea and a producer like Mike West .... AMAZING!
